João de Magalhães, Ph.D. is originally from Porto, Portugal and has lived in Belgium and in Boston in the US, and is also of Spanish ancestry. Professionally, and following training at Harvard Medical School, he is now a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to an Associate Professor in the US) at the University of Liverpool in England where his laboratory studies aging. As detailed on his senescence.info website dedicated to the biology of aging, he would ultimately like his work to help people live longer, healthier lives by contributing to the retardation, halting, or reversal of processes of human aging. He has published dozens of scientific papers, including in top journals (e.g., Nature– and Cell-family journals). He and his research have been widely featured in scientific outlets (Science, Scientific American, New Scientist, etc.) and in the popular press (BBC, CNN, the Washington Post, the Financial Timesand many others).
